Ode to Aly

The beautiful Aly!

Because I wrote in a recent blog post, "Thanks to my dear friend Aly who does my hair now"  That dear friend Aly commented:
aly said...
"my whole life i have been waiting to make an appearance on [your] blog and now my dreams are finally coming true! ha ha! mary you look hot then and you are even hotter now!"
I can't believe I haven't blogged about this darling girl before.  So this post is dedicated to you Aly dear:
Let's go back to the first time I met Aly almost 6 years ago...  In the fall of 2005, Klint who was living with his friends Joel & Eric in American Fork, (at the "Sin City" house we lamely named!) invited me & Courtney to his singles' ward Sunday night "Munch & Mingle."  Klint and I were actually broken up at the time, but I was very much a part of the friends scene still.  Anyway, Klint wanted us to meet this cool girl Aly!  So we did, but I have vague memories of that night.  But I do remember her after that specifically on Klint's birthday a couple months later when she baked her famous PCCCs (Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies)!  In February of 2006 Aly cut and colored my hair for the first time and I loved it! [I firmly believe that doing hair takes talent and she definitely has the gift, so if you want a fab hairdresser who is an awesome person too head to Remedez spa at the University Mall in Orem.]
Aly also cut Klint's hair for years until we got poor and I started doing it!

So we had this new friend Aly whom we had great times with; I loved dancing with her at "Another Statistic" concerts! (Bryce & Elaine's old band).

After an "Another Statistic" concert
I was actually at Aly's getting my hair done when Klint surprised me by coming home a couple days early from the "Another Statistic" 6 week band tour with his new look - his first beard!
Aly did my hair and makeup for my wedding day and it was so pretty; she even brought hair spray with her to our reception!
My bridal shower - Aly actually did my hair that morning!
At our Wedding reception I  love this picture!  (And I looked so pretty thanks to my Aly!)

Once Klint & I were married Aly we of course kept going to her, and she would occasionally grace us with her presence as one of our very few dinner guest at our apartment (seriously we never invited anyone over for dinner!)  Aly turned me into a brunette in 2008 when I finally took the plunge, and was there again for me when I came running back to be blond again! She has been there through everything (don't we all confide to our hairstylists?!!)  I'm tellling you this girl is amazing!

Aly is not only beautiful, stylish, smart, talented, great with kids, feisty, a tasty baker, and a fabulous hairdresser, but she is hilarious and a great person to talk to.  Aly is always smiling even when she's talking about crapy things going on!  I just wish a guy as great as her would snatch her up already.  Stupid boys.  Aly truly is the complete package!  Aly we love you thanks for being such a great friend to me & Klint.
Smoking hot picture of Aly I stole off her facebook page!

Headgear Pictures!

So I finally found 2 pictures of when I had HEADGEAR!!!!  I would always take my headgear off for pictures, but I luckily found these two gems:

I was "fortunate" ; ) enough to wear this headgear for 16 hours a day (all the time except at school)  I was so embarrased of my headgear back then, but now I think it's hilarious!

The best day of my life (when I was a kid) was the day my dentist told me that I needed braces!  But I had to start with the headgear to pull my teeth back.  I was so self-conscience of my teeth that I tried to always close my mouth in pictures (as seen in my school pictures below).  So I don't have many pictures of my bad teeth, but I found these.... no more smile......... no smile.........braces smile

I would purse my lips so hard to hide my teeth!
I looked SO dumb I love it!
Needless to say I am SO GRATEFUL I was able to have braces and fix my awful teeth - Thanks mom!  I love to smile now!

Do you ever wish you could go back to a time in your life?
I don't, but if I had to I would go back to my early childhood just for fun.  But if I could go back as the person I am now I would go back to high school.  I sure would have enjoyed it more being that I'm less of a retard, much more confident, and less hideous!

High School Graduation 10 years ago
I graduated on May 31st, 2001 from Orem High School.  Something I thought of just barely that I keep forgetting to tell Klint (I love telling him stories of just how nerdy I was) is that when they called my name for graduation and I walked through the "O" for Orem High I flashed in sign language "U-2"... yeah I was that "cool!" [read: lame!]  Ha ha ha ha ha ha I can't believe I did that what was I thinking - and my hair!?  Why oh why?!  Why didn't anyone help me?!  Don't worry I have not touched a box of hair bleach since then - my sister thankfully put a stop to that when she took me after graduation to get my hair done, but why Cara wasn't the intervention sooner?!  Thanks to my dear friend Aly who does my hair now.  Oh, and btw I didn't end up going to my 10 year high school reuinion (Klint was happy about that!)

So where did I think I'd be in 10 years at age 27?
I assumed I'd be married with maybe 3 kids, yet at the same time I really didn't think I'd ever marry.  Why?  I just never liked a boy enough to want to marry them nor did I think a boy would ever like me enough to want to be with me forever (come on I was playing Barbies until I was 17 - I was a late bloomer mentally and physically!)  I can blame some of my low self-esteem on my little brother who was verbally abusive and actually beat me up most of my life.  But don't you worry one bit once we no longer lived together my life instantly got better and I knew I wasn't stupid and that I had worth!  It still took time because I did date a few people that I regret : O  Why am I telling you all this?  Because my biggest goal as a future mother is to make sure my children have good self-worth.  When you are confident in who you are life is so much easier and you can lift others up.  Anyway, after I met Klint in 2004 and soon-after fell in love for the first time I finally realized why people got married (before I thought my friends were crazy!)  I never thought I would marry such a wonderful, caring, smart, funny, and handsome man!  You know the lists you make in Young Womens of the qualities you want in your future husband?  Well, Klint was WAY better than the man on my dumb list!  I know I have been blessed by my Heavenly Father far above what I deserve.  Now most of my friends and people my age have children and since I don't I always think I'm younger than I really am.  I still think I'm 21.  I'm sure enjoying life though!  Once we start having kids we'll have them the rest of our lives so it's nice to be able to enjoy being alone with my best friend.  If it were up to my sister I would only have one or two kids no more!  I think that when I am a mom I will finally start to feel grown up!
P.S. In 10 years I will be 37 yikes!  And will finally have kids : )

Girls Night Rollerskatin'

Back in April our sister-in-law Nicole and nieces Addie & Bailey, who live in New York, came out to Utah for spring break.  [It just so happened that Klint went out to New York and stayed with his brother Kris - bad timing I know - at the same time!]  Anyway, Bailey wanted to have a girls night and I was invited.  It ended up being at Classic Skating and we had SO much fun!  We were all laughing so hard the whole time.  I hadn't been roller-skating in over 10 years and guess what?  ROLLER-SKATING IS HARD!!! Especially when you're trying to take pictures at the same time! : )
We started out in the bounce room!

Teri bought us all neon orange fishnet sleeves that glowed under the black lights!

I crashed a few times!  Once landing in the splits!

My beautiful nieces: Staci, Kimi, Addie

Nicole & Bailey

So.... I got asked to "Snowball" skate with this 18 year-old kid who was trying to impress us
with his trick moves and he works at a video game store.  My nieces egged me on! While we
were skating I said to him "Sorry my hands are so sweaty" he said "that's okay!"  Ha ha

Saturday we took Bruce home!!!  He has gotten SO big just in the few days we've had him!  He is so funny.  He loves being wherever we are.  Klint has already taught him come, sit, stay, fetch.  He does not like going on walks.  He takes a few steps then LAYS down on the sidewalk, so I have to be ahead of Bruce and Klint and call him it's really annoying! : )  Bruce is so much more work than Carl was and I think it mostly has to do with his size.  Did I mention how big he is?!  He is hard to pick up.  He loves water both to drink and just to lay by his bowl.  He sure is cute.  But he has to be watched constantly in the house good thing he loves going outside he loves the grass.  Carl & Bruce are getting along pretty well, yesterday Carl really showed his teeth though : (  Carl is very selfish all the new bones and toys I got Bruce Carl steals, so I let him have then and got more out for Bruce Carl steals those too!  Anyway, Klint is doing the majority of the care of Bruce...thank goodness!  I keep thinking I can't wait til Bruce is grown up and good! : )  [I caught myself thinking that I WLL NOT be like that when I have real babies though.  I'm going to enjoy every second and not let stupid things I need to do get in my way which is why I will not work when we have children....did that even make sense?]  Anyway, the best thing about Bruce?  HE LOVES EVERYONE!  Here's some pictures:

Bruce's first PetSmart trip

Bruce's first car ride - he was so clumsy

Bruce & Carl's first meeting at a park.

I slept by Bruce the first night then Klnt took the next 4 nights until he made it into our room.

At my parents house, Bruce crashed on the lawn and didn't flinch
while all the nieces & nephews kept playing with him!

Bruce loves the grass

This is how Bruce slept I snapped this picture when I got up this morning!

7 Years

I sit here eating cookies, staring at Carl, Moriah & Bebe (as I'm dog-sitting), and missing my husband.  Klint is in NYC editing video projects at Kris & Nicole's.  Earlier today I was reading texts Klint sent me back when we were dating (5 & 6 years ago) they were SO SWEET!  I've been kinda sad since thinking that I need to be a better wife.  He loves me....well obviously, but to read all the kind, adorable, loving things he's written to me made me think that I need to be more like the person he adored.  I was fun, patient, positive and happy.  It kinda does take being away from Klint to realize how much he means to me.  I love him oh so much and I love being married to him.

So I re-watched two General Conference talks that I love:  the first one was from April Elder Scott talking about his wife - he loved her so dearly and I bawled the first time I heard it thinking that I wanted a marriage like theirs.  And the second was from April 2007 Elder Holland's "The Tongue of Angels" Wow that one cuts me.

It's been 7 years since I met Klint (July 31st, 2004) I still remember walking up the split entry stairs of the "VIP House" where he lived and meeting this tall, skinny, funny kid wearing tortoise-shell display glasses (the ones from the optical store that say the brand name on the clear lens!) and him introducing himself as the "dad" (that night everyone was a character). Though it took almost 5 months before we started hanging out with and realizing that I liked this funny kid I still celebrate meeting him. Thanks to Bri & Bryce (my best friend being cousins with Klint's best friend!) that I was able to know this boy.  Anyway, I want my darling husband to know that I love him..."so much!"
Klint summer 2004 - oooohh he sure is hot!
